"You go back and listen to Conway and Merle and George and all those guys . . . I've never felt like I can put myself in that category with them. I don't know of any new artist -- I'm not new, but my generation or newer. I just don't feel like I qualify 'cause there's just not singers and artist like that anymore. It's a whole different level of magic when you go listen to their records and (then) listen to mine or anybody's today. I don't know that there'll ever be another. Keith Whitley was probably the last one that could touch it."
