Rodney's First Award
|
Rodney Atkins won his very first Academy of Country Music Award last year for Top New Male Vocalist, and this year he stands to add a few more trophies to his collection. The singer is up for Top New Male, Album of the Year for If You're Going Through Hell, and Song and Video of the Year for "Watching You." Rodney told us that while he'd be thrilled with any of the above, he'd really love to win for "Watching You," which was written about his son, Elijah, the star of the video. "It definitely, completely freaks me out that I'm nominated for Male Vocalist, that I won Top (New) Male Vocalist last year, and I guess the biggest one -- the most satisfying, gratifying would be 'Watching You' and knowing my little boy's gonna be walking the orange carpet with me is amazing, but then to be nominated for Album of the Year. . . That makes you think those people at the Academy of Country Music know what they're doin'! I don't know. It's very gratifying." The Academy of Country Music Awards will be held on Sunday (May 18th) in Las Vegas. The show airs live on CBS KDKA TV 2 beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Rodney Atkins says his latest number one hit – “Cleaning This Gun” – was just a new take on an old theme. Rodney says when he first heard the song, he was kind of surprised no one had ever written a song like it before. “This song to me is just like ‘Watching You’ in that it was a song that was right in front of your face for a long time. Nobody ever wrote it. It’s something that’s always been there. We all joke about that. But nobody had written the song before. But they just wrote the heck out of it and, like I say, it’s where ‘Butterfly Kisses’ meets ‘A Country Boy Can Survive.’” Rodney will see if he can survive in Las Vegas on Sunday. He’s nominated as Top Male Vocalist alongside Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Keith Urban at the ACM Awards. Rodney also has a nomination for Album of the Year. |
