Alan Jackson Has Good Time
What a difference a producer makes. In this case the people at Arista had the wisdom to let Alan be Alan resulting in Alan Jacksons new CD called Good Time produced by his long-time collaborator, Keith Stegall.
This is a masterpiece of country music and a must have for all of us who love country music.

You Won't Hear it on the Radio
There is some new music out there for real country music fans. Country music being what it is probably will not play any of these cuts since country radio takes a real middle of the road approach to what gets played for mass appeal. Sorry folks, that's the problem with BROAD casting...we gotta' try to please a lot of people all at once.
Ah, but the music doesn't go away.
Willie Nelson has a new CD out produced by Buddy Cannon and Kenny Chesney. Now, Buddy has had real success with Kenny as those two have collaborated on a number of projects but now it's almost as if the mentor lets the student run the class and this production of Willie Nelsons is a Master Class act!
It's called Moment of Forever and if you're a Willie fan you'll absolutely love it. And if this is your first foray into Willie-land you may well be hooked. Great songs, typically sparse instrumentation which is Willies trademark but a real good emotional feel which is Kennys trademark. I've always thought that Buddy Cannon in a studio is like a therapist.
"Why do you want to do that song?"
"Um-hmm and what do you think it might sound like?"
"Well let's hear it then."
Buddy knows how to guide an artist without getting in the way and letting only the best remain on the master mix-down.
Favorite cuts:
Over You Again, Louisiana, Worry B Gone(with Kenny) and Gotta' Serve Somebody.
Got a long trip...load up Moment of Forever. It's on the Lost Highway label.
Then there's Levon Helm, Dirt Farmer on the Vanguard label.
From the picture on the cover you should know what you're getting. This to me sounds a lot like The Band and their Big Pink Days. Now my memory may be housed in smoke and dizzy memories(Big Pink was a long time ago)and maybe I was sharin' some of Willies health care medicine but that's what this CD reminds me of.
It has a nice bluegrass, dirt and bones feel from the first cut False Hearted Lover Blues right on through. The Poor Old Dirt Farmer is the kind of music I just love. It's back-porch pickin' easy playin, amurikain music.
There's just something soulful about that lonely bluegrass fiddle. And Helms voice, especially on Little Birds sounds like Dr. Ralph Stanley. Train Robbery is a song that needs no videos. Country music never needed videos because the words, the story, the music were always so descriptive and that's what this one has.
Hey, Levon Helm ain't for everybody for sure. But if you've got a long drive through some Pennsylvania or Ohio farmland, click this one on and go to a place where country music really comes from.
Levon Helm, Dirt Farmer, produced by Larry Campbell and Amy Helm. Yup, it's all about family.
